Another approach beyond conversation analysis in terms of e.g. double-talk for assessing the impact of delay is to look at task effectiveness. The recently standardised ITU-T Rec. P.1312 (2016) provides a description of such an approach, focussing on multiparty situations. The basic idea is to measure how well test participants are able to solve a task over the delayed communication link compared to solving the task face-to-face. While this method was shown to be sensitive for delay, it was originally intended for spatial audio systems. More details on this topic are given in Section 8.7.2.
